Student life

Founded in 1388, there are today more than 50,000 students at the University of Cologne, contributing to the city’s vibrant and open character. Cologne is a diverse, international city. The university reflects that. Many of the international students are connected in international student associations.

Cologne is a cosmopolitan metropolis with a cosy vibe and lots to see and do. It features a world heritage site, a diverse cultural life with many museums, theatres, and concert venues, as well as a vibrant night life.

Cologne’s unique location between the capitals of Europe and Germany – Brussels and Berlin – makes it an exciting place for studying political science. Cologne is a major media and trade centre. It is host to a number of important trade fairs and major retail firms and media companies, offering diverse job opportunities during and after your studies. The city of Bonn, home to a number of United Nations institutions and federal ministries and agencies, as well as the state capital, Düsseldorf, are only twenty minutes away.
